M Family Documentary Session

Family documentary sessions have become one of my favorite things to photograph. It was an unseasonably cool day when I arrived at the M's house for their family documentary session. After meeting their twin boys and 6 month old baby girl, I decided with M's parents on a couple of good spots for some informal portraits. I always get a few camera aware images at the beginning of a lifestyle family session. It's a great warm up and serves as sort of a mini-session.

After Baby C went for a nap, the boys got to make use of their Easter present. New, shiny, yellow rain boots!

After splashing around in in rain puddles, everyone moved on to the back yard to spend some time playing.

After playing hard, it was to time to replenish with snacks.

Just as soon as snack time was over, Baby C awoke from her nap and the family went upstairs to greet her.

A teepee in the boys' room served as a perfect reading nook.

Soon, it was time for the the boy's nap. It didn't feel like I had stayed that long!

J's Adoption Day!

This was such an exciting shoot for me. I have wanted to photograph an adoption for a long time, so I was pleased as punch when the S family gave me the opportunity to be their adoption photographer. I arrived at their home in the morning to take a few photos of the family together, then I hopped in the van with them to ride to the courthouse.

When the S family arrived at the courthouse, they were greeted with excited family and friends.

When we entered the courtroom, another family had their proceeding before us. It was so nice to see two families officially adding a member that day. The mood in the room was certainly a happy one! I was able to stand behind the judge for the proceeding, which provided a great angle to photograph from. It all happened very quickly!

After J's adoption, Mom and Dad "renewed" Z's adoption. Z was about J's age when she was adopted, and she wanted to do it again!

Just like that, it was time to head back home for a celebration.

The P Family Lifestyle Session

I visited the P family in their home yesterday to document their typical daily routines there. They will be moving soon and they wanted to have images to remember their daughter's first home with. Little E is such a cute, sweet kiddo. It was obvious that there is a a lot of love within those walls that will move with the family to their new abode! Houston Newborn Photographer - S Family's New Addition

Last weekend I enjoyed photographing the S Family's newest addition in their home. Their living room was flooded with natural light, so I didn't even have to bring out my studio lights. I must say that studio lights can yield some great results, but natural light is my favorite!

Welcome to the world, little guy!

A Family's Portrait Session - Russ Pittman Park

I am loving taking portraits at Russ Pittman Park in Bellaire. I met the A family there for portraits recently, and I discovered even more hidden gems within this small neighborhood oasis. The pocket prairie is a small cordoned area planted with native grasses that the kids loved. They had a blast running through the trails and playing hide and seek in the tall grass.

The park is a bit of a drive from my home base, but I think the resulting portraits are worth it!

Houston Family Photographer - G Family Portraits at Russ Pitman Park

This morning I had the pleasure of meeting the G family and visiting Pitman Park for the first time. This park is truly a hidden oasis in a residential area of Bellaire. I almost missed the entrance, but once I made my way to the trail through the crushed granite parking lot, I was greeted with a serene nature trail perfect for a family photo session or a relaxing walk. Between the backdrop of the park and the adorable G family, I captured some great photos! I still have several images to go through, but these caught my eye right off the bat! photocrati gallery

Family Photography - P Family Portraits at Marmion Park

A couple of days ago I met the P family at Marmion Park in The Heights to take portraits of their girls.  It was my first time photographing at this location and it was so convenient. The pavilion and surroundings had a deep southern air about them that made me feel like I was further east than Houston. This park is another one that gets my vote for shade and eliminating the need to walk very far for family portraits. I enjoyed the session despite the muggy heat, and I think the girls did, too:)

Houston Newborn Photographer - Baby S

C has been my dear friend since we met in 7th grade english class. She has been with me through so many of life's milestones, so I was honored to take portraits commemorating her most important milestone yet. Baby S is the most precious gift and I look forward to watching her grow. photocrati gallery

Congratulations, C! I am so thrilled for you!

Houston Newborn Photographer - Welcoming baby Hosea

On Monday I enjoyed a session with some Oak Forest neighbors who welcomed a beautiful little boy into their family recently. It seems like just couple of weeks ago I was at their home photographing family and maternity portraits! It's just so much fun to watch people's families grow. Newborn sessions typically consist of photographing sleeping babies a lot, but not this one! Hosea was alert and observing everything he could in his new world. photocrati gallery

Nothing like a fun feet photo to wrap up a shoot:)

Houston Newborn Photographer - Baby Charlotte

I had the honor of photographing the sweetest baby girl yesterday! Baby Charlotte is Sarah and Chris's brand new little girl. I photographed Sarah and Chris's wedding a while back and I also went to high school with them a good while back before that. It's so much fun watching the family grow of people you knew back in the day.

I'm pretty new to newborn photography; I've only photographed a few sessions for former wedding photography clients and close friends. Newborn photography is definitely a whole different kind of challenge compared to wedding photography! I was feeling a bit rusty in this department, but Sarah worked with Charlotte to keep her fed, happy and asleep. After Charlotte was fast asleep, the shoot was a breeze.

Newborn Photography

I'm used to most of my wedding day shoots taking on a fast pace, but photographing baby Charlotte made me remember that working with infants is all about patience. It was definitely worth taking the extra time as we got our best shots at the end of the session while Charlotte was sleeping peacefully nestled in a blanket in a bucket. I'm eager to photograph another newborn session soon. Thanks Sarah and Chris - and congratulations!
