The studio is part of an artist workspace community that sits on half an acre surrounded by trees amongst the urban bustle. It was built around an old shipping container and is filled with natural light. Other artists in residence include a ceramicist, an architect, and two painters. Lola the dog and 4 chickens collectively called “the girls” liven up the property. Sometimes the girls even lay blue eggs!
The studio is located near the Garden Oaks and Independence Heights neighborhoods north of 610 at 419 Janisch Rd, Houston, TX, 77018. From 610 and Yale, turn north until you reach Janisch Rd., then turn left. The studios will be about 750’ on your left. Although they are set back from the street behind a two story art studio and home, there is a 30’ tall wooden sculpture that is hard to miss.
From Shepherd and 610, turn north on Shepherd, then turn right on Janisch just past Country Kitchen restaurant. The studios will be on your right about 1250’ along.
Just park in the parking circle out front and come on through the front gate. The Light Fantastic is the third studio from the right behind the big house.
